Rural students frequently have a strong interest in engineering but are not able to study in a region close to their home, as few rural universities provide engineering education. The Faculty of Engineering Rural Scholarships Program is designed to assist students living in rural and isolated areas to study at the leading Engineering Faculty in Australia. Each year the Faculty of Engineering Rural Scholarships Program has approximately 20 scholarships, valued at $9,500 per annum (tax free) for four years, available for rural students who can undertake one of more than 20 full-time engineering programs offered by the Faculty of Engineering at UNSW.
Many of these scholarships have been made possible by the generosity of private and industry donors, with several of the industry sponsored scholarships offering recipients the opportunity to undertake industrial training during summer vacations.
Applications for Rural Scholarships must be submitted to the UNSW Co-op Program office. You can use My Application Online to apply for a UNSW Co-op Program Scholarship and/or a Faculty of Engineering Rural Scholarship. Apply for one or both using the same application form.
You must "activate" your application form ONLINE or send your hand written application form to ensure it reaches the Co-op Program office by 5pm on 30th September.

UNSW Co-op Program may also offer a limited number of DIRECT Scholarships in Engineering disciplines only, depending on Sponsor demand. DIRECT Scholarships will link the scholarship holder with just one industry sponsor throughout the course of their degree.
Engineering DIRECT Scholarships contain the same elements of Industrial Training as Co-op Scholarships BUT all placements are completed with one Sponsor Company. Scholarships will be valued at $15,000 per annum, paid fortnightly throughout the course of the Scholarship. Engineering DIRECT graduates will be eligible for an additional $2,500 bonus payment should they join their Sponsor company after graduation. Unlike Coop Scholarships, Engineering DIRECT Scholarships may be taxable.
All applicants for a UNSW Co-op Scholarship in Engineering will also be considered for Engineering DIRECT if scholarships are available. If a candidate is selected for both a Co-op and a DIRECT Scholarship, the candidate will be asked to make a choice.
Applications for Direct Scholarships must be submitted to the UNSW Co-op Program office. You can use My Application Online to apply for a UNSW Co-op Program Scholarship and/or a Direct Scholarship. Apply for one or both using the same application form.

A student who accepts a UNSW Co-op Program Scholarship and is eligible for a Scientia Scholarship may accept both; however they will receive a $5,000 once off Scientia "bonus payment" in first year only. These students will remain eligible for all the other benefits of the Scientia Scholarship.
Where awarded, the student is permitted to accept an Academic Achievement Award (AAA) in conjunction with the UNSW Co-op Program (or UNSW Co-op Program/Scientia Bonus).
