Benefits for Sponsors

Benefits of Sponsorship are:

Early access to exceptional students with good communication and leadership skills, who can be directly recruited
Seeing some of these talented students at work in your company's environment; 9-18 months high quality full-time resource (no additional cost; no permanent head count)
UNSW Co-op Program Scholars receive a tax-free scholarship of $15,000 per annum.* This is paid in fortnightly instalments and can be used at the student's discretion
Well before graduation, Sponsors and Scholars are encouraged to meet to discuss graduate recruitment options at dedicated Recruitment Events

Knox Grammar School, Graduated from Accounting @ UNSW 2004

After finishing my final year at Knox Grammar School, I was fortunate to be selected for the UNSW Accounting Co-op Program. Gaining entry into one of the most recognised commerce degrees in Australia as well as getting a variety of experiences at leading companies has helped me choose the industry that suits my interests. It has also proved to be a wonderful 'kickstart' for a career in Business.

I am currently employed at Coca-Cola Amatil, on the Graduate Program. I have worked in the corporate function, the alcohol division, operations and logistics, and at the end of the year I will do a 6 month placement in New Zealand.

The experiences and opportunities I have gained through the UNSW Co-op Program has been invaluable, it really is a fantastic program.

Industry Training

Sponsors assist in the professional development of Scholars by providing challenging real world experience.

Industry Training placements vary in length from 10 to 24 weeks depending on which program you support and you will have 3 or 4 placements during the course of the 4 or 5 year sponsorship.

Scholars on placement can become a high quality full-time resource
There is no additional cost whilst the Scholar is on placement
Scholars are not considered a permanent head count
As a Sponsor you have the opportunity to assess Scholars' performance in your own workplace
Sponsors have first access to these Scholars to discuss graduate employment opportunities

Get Involved

Sponsors can also choose to be involved in a number of other activities such as:

Scholar Selection
Scholars are selected not only for their academic qualities, but also for demonstrated leadership and personal motivation skills. Sponsors are invited to participate in the interview panels to select the initial pool of students. Interviews are held in November each year.

Site Visits
Site visits to companies are arranged for all first year Scholars. This is an opportunity for Scholars to learn more about the companies and for Sponsors, to meet the total cohort of students in the Program in the year they are sponsoring and to showcase the work that they do.

Sponsor Meetings
Regular Sponsor meetings are held which update Sponsors on the Scholars progress, the Co-op news and offer industry the opportunity to provide feedback on the Program and course content. These are held separately for each program.

Professional Development
Active involvement in this training is another opportunity for Sponsors to strengthen their engagement with Scholars and to ensure that the messages important to them are delivered.

Recruitment Functions
Our Sponsors have first access to recruitment of the Co-op Scholars with relevant industry and professional management training. Recruitment functions are held for all of our final year Scholars prior to the mainstream recruitment period. Functions will be held during the last week of February or first week of March.

Career Opportunities when you graduate from the Co-op Accounting Program

Accountants are needed in all industries: service companies, manufacturing industries, government organisations, and the finance industry. With the right background, accountants are able to work as business managers, auditors, financial analysts, management consultants and information systems analysts. After some experience, they are often chosen to take executive positions.

There are opportunities to travel and work with a diverse range of companies. Many of the companies which sponsor the Co-op Program are global organisations, who send their successful employees all over the world.

Accountants can be employed in any of the following fields:

Management Accounting refers to the processes and technologies designed to secure the effective use of organisational resources, in diverse, dynamic and competitive environments.

Financial Accounting refers to that area of accounting concerned with the design and operation of information and reporting systems directed to parties external to an organisation.

Assurance Services refers to the examination, verification and evaluation of, and the reporting on financial or managerial processes, systems or outcomes in diverse and evolving contexts of accountability, to improve economic decision making and add value to clients.

Treasury and Financial Markets refers to that area of work concerned with the global management of financial risk for organisations and the evaluation of financial investments.

Management Consulting refers to the examination and evaluation of strategies, systems, processes, outcomes and managerial dynamics of an organisation with a view to providing recommendations for improved performance.
