What is Construction Management & Property?
The management of the people, processes and products within building construction and property development is a detailed, challenging and specialised expertise. A Bachelor of Construction Management and Property (BCMP) will teach you vital skills in the planning, design, construction, operation and management of all residential, commercial and public buildings and infrastructure.
Professionals who are able to oversee and coordinate multidisciplinary teams of people in the construction and property industries are highly sought-after and valued. As a student you will learn how to plan projects, evaluate risk, understand legal and financial requirements, be a team leader and manage the time, quality and cost equation. The course provides a fundamental understanding of how buildings are constructed and how they perform, with a distinctive focus on people and process management developing students' communication and relationship skills, ability to problem-solve and work independently.
The flexible course structure of a Bachelor of Construction Management and Property at UNSW provides for specialisation in building construction, property development, quantity surveying or facilities management. Students determine their specialisation as they progress through the program of study, by the elective course choices they make in years 2, 3 and 4.
Courses cover all major building types and examine technical areas such as building services, materials, structures and scheduling in specific detail. The program has particular emphasis on management techniques and processes. While gaining the theoretical knowledge, the Co-op Construction Management and Property Program allows students the flexibility to complete their degree whilst also gaining vital practical experience. This practical experience has been incorporated into the study program and does not extend the duration of the BCMP program. The particular Co-op Partners ensure students gain exposure to leaders in the industry, and provide a solid platform to build fantastic careers in the construction management and property field.
